A year after the horrific events of September 11, 2001, where terrorists sought to cower the United States into submission that others could rule their lives, seven teams of 12 and 14 and under girls softball teams came together to play fastpitch softball. In the shadows of the still under rebuild Pentagon, these young ladies came to send a message to the world that America would not stay silent. Seven teams came from Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania to play. A number of the players on the team had lost family members in the attacks. As the Arlington Fire Chief Ed Plaugher noted 'what a wonderful way to celebrate the response of our First Responders to have such an event'. Those who play this year, send a message to those eighty young ladies who played that day that they come to honor their efforts and continue the tradition. We have been so fortunate to have the support of the County, the United States Army and the Federal Government.
